Welcome to this page!*On the bold print words, if it highlighted or underlined, it may be a link to anotherpage that describes that words, so carefully look at the words while you read! :) On this page we talk about 'Potential Energy'. Over the next few weeks, we will add to this page because 'Potential Energy' can be stored in different ways. Potential Energy as you might have guessed now, is 'Stored Energy' thatis waiting to be used. You can give items potential energy by doing differentthings and then when it is ready to be used, it will be turned into 'Kinetic Energy' thatwill help objects do different things - move or change or both.
Week 1 - Introduction to different types of EnergyMrs Maple showed us different activities and different activities had different waysof storing energy ready to be used and turned into kinetic energy. *If an object is not doing anything, not moving and has no potential energy, it has NO ENERGY! Just changing or doing something like lifting an object into the aira little bit is giving an object potential energy - WOW! Just like that!!! *The Ball
When Mrs Maple had the ball on the ground and it was very still...it had NO ENERGY! When Mrs Maple held the ball in the air a little by her knees, the ball had a little bit of potential energy.*How was the ball going to use this potential energy? *How was it going to become kinetic energy?*What would happen if Mrs Maple gave the ball more potential energy by lifting the ball higher?
Before you click on the movie, make your 'hypothesis' (your calculated and very good guess)and then see if you were correct (or really, if you remembered well!).
*The BalloonsWhen the balloon was flat and air had not been put into it, it had NO ENERGY.
Thinking Questions!*What do you think Mrs Maple did next to give the balloon potential energy?*How was the potential energy used up? How was it turned into kinetic energy? Next...Mrs Maple asked 3 people to stand up and give their balloons some potentialenergy but they all had different AMOUNTS of potential energy!
*How did each person give their balloon a different amount of potential energy?*What happened when the potential energy was turned into kinetic energy?*How was it turned into kinetic energy? *Before you click on the movie, make your hypothesis!
